The Yarmouth Town Council has unanimously endorsed a $1.5 million bond issue to put before voters on June 25th, 2013. The bond, when passed, will be matched by $1 million generated by private fund-raising. As structured, the bond will not increase the real estate taxes paid by the town’s residents and businesses. The payments will replace those currently being paid on an expiring bond. Additionally, there will be significant cost savings for the town from new energy efficiencies that are a result of the renovation.
The library project involves a three-phased renovation that will allow the programming to expand into the third floor and bring the building up to code for safety and energy efficiency.
The campaign is now organizing neighborhood gatherings to help people learn more about the renovation project, how they can support the work, and why they should vote “yes” in June.
