Journaling Challenge

posted on - January 1, 2023

This month we will be using 8.5 x 4 inch rectangles to use as a daily journal. Supplies and directions will be available in the Library starting May 26th. The goal is to journal daily and create a simple journal.

Feel free to add sketches, painting, or mixed media on the squares to supplement your journaling. There are enough pages to have a cover and back to your journal, or feel free to add your own.  Prompts for the month of June will be available on the Library’s Facebook page and via email to those who sign up.

Sign-up for daily journaling prompts. Please contact Andi Jackson-Darling at 846-4763 or ajdarling@yarmouthlibrary.org to receive supplies and directions or for additional information about this program.

Merrill Film Society

posted on - September 26, 2020

UDPATE: due to our elevator being out-of-service, Merrill Film Society will be back on Zoom while we await elevator repair.

The Merrill Film Society meets at the library, on Zoom, and occasionally other locations, to watch and discuss great films and the industry. Any and all are free to join in!

Film Screenings

Please watch the films prior to our Zoom meeting. Both of this month’s movies are available to stream via Kanopy. DVDs are also available. Thanks to our elevator’s maintenance issues, the theme for the Merrill Film Society this month is “Movies That May Be More Fun Than Walking Up Multiple Flights of Stairs”.

May 10 @ 7 pm, discussion to be held via Zoom: Election

We begin with the 1999 black comedy Election directed by Alexander Payne, based on the novel of the same name written by Tom Perrotta. The film focuses on a scandalous high school election and stars Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon as a teacher and student, respectively. The script earned an Oscar nomination and Witherspoon’s performance earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the Golden Globes.

May 24 @ 7 pm, via Zoom: Logan Lucky

Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky marked a triumphant un-retirement for the director when it was released in 2017. Audience members who were used to seeing Soderbergh heist movies with star-studded ensemble casts (e.g. the Oceans movies) were not disappointed by this outing. The film stars, in no particular order, Daniel Craig, Adam Driver, Katie Holmes, Hilary Swank, Channing Tatum, and more!

To receive the link to the Zoom talk please request one from Mike via email at mcarnes@yarmouthlibrary.org.
