Bad Art Friend

When Mary (known as “Miss Mary” to certain MML patrons) asked me Wednesday evening if I had read the article about the “Bad Art Friend,” I wasn’t sure if the phrase meant friends who bonded over the mutual appreciation of bad art, or a friend who is connected through art but is not a very loyal friend. It is the latter. The article Mary was referring to had already blown up on the Internet by the time Mary introduced me, I have come across it numerous times since then, and I believe it will be published in the October 10 issue of the New York Times magazine. It’s a great story, but I felt queasy while reading it.
