An Afternoon with Local Author Tad Runge

November 13 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Event Series (See All)

Join local author Tad Runge for a unique and engaging presentation on the world of oriental rugs, with a special focus on the Hamadan village rugs that inspired his book One Woman One Weft. Drawing on decades of experience as a collector and dealer, Tad will share the fascinating story behind these humble yet extraordinary weavings—and the women who created them. This is a rare opportunity for anyone curious about the art, history, or care of oriental rugs to ask questions, see examples up close, and take part in a lively, no-slides-needed conversation.

This program is co-sponsored by Merrill Memorial Library and the 2026 Camden Conference: Today’s Middle East: Power, Politics, & Players.

Tad Runge has led a diverse professional life, beginning with Peace Corps service in Colombia, followed by a career in healthcare administration and, later, as owner of A.E. Runge Jr. Oriental Rugs in Yarmouth, Maine. His deep interest in Persian village rugs—particularly those from Hamadan—led to the publication of One Woman One Weft, a book celebrating the artistry of rural Iranian women weavers. Now a year-round resident of Chebeague Island, he continues to share his knowledge and passion for the cultural history behind these textiles.
