Readers’ Circle ‘The Haunting of Hill House’

Our October book will be ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ by Shirley Jackson.

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson is a psychological horror novel that follows a small group of people who gather at a mysterious mansion to investigate reports of supernatural activity. Led by Dr. John Montague, the group includes Eleanor Vance, a shy and emotionally fragile woman; Theodora, her confident and free-spirited counterpart; and Luke Sanderson, the future heir of the estate. As they spend time in the house, unsettling events begin to occur, including eerie noises, cold spots, and messages appearing on the walls. The line between reality and delusion blurs, especially for Eleanor, who becomes increasingly obsessed with the house. Her mental state deteriorates until her tragic and ambiguous death, raising haunting questions about whether the evil lies in the house—or within herself.
