State of the Birds

October 10 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)

Bird populations in Maine are constantly changing. More than 440 species have been recorded in the state over the years, with some having been here for a long time while others are relatively new. Some species have been introduced accidentally, while others were done intentionally. A few have unfortunately been extirpated, and we may never see them again. Nick Lund joins us from the Maine Audubon Society for a lunchtime chat to explain some of the major changes and fluctuations in Maine’s avian fauna.

Nick Lund is Maine Audubon’s Advocacy and Outreach Manager, where he works with the policy team to pass wildlife-protective legislation and policy. He is a birder and bird writer, the author of books including The ABA Field Guide to the Birds of Maine, and recently-released book for middle-grade readers Dinosaurs to Chickens: How Evolution Works.

This program is a part of our Lunch and Learn Series: A Deep Dive Into Nature, so we invite you to bring along a bagged lunch!
