Whales play a vital role in ocean ecosystems that help to support all life on Earth. Join Marine Mammals of Maine (MMoME) as we dive deep into the World of Whales. Our presenter Jessica Woodend will start with a basic overview of what species are often seen in the Gulf of Maine (the common and the uncommon). With her as our guide we will investigate the adaptations that these large mammals have in order to survive in their ocean home, their stranding response here in Maine, and highlight a few of MMoME’s most fascinating cases. Wrapping up, Jessica will discuss what challenges these animals face and what challenges does MMoME itself encounters when a report of a stranded animal comes through their hotline.
Jessica Woodend has worked in Wildlife Education all around the country for nearly 20 years. Looking to grow her experience with animal care and rescue, Jessica started volunteering with MMoME in 2017. She helps with education, animal care, and rescue response.
