Sight and Sound, a film Magazine published by the British Film Institute recently released the results of its once-in-a-decade poll of film critics and directors. Over the decades the list has served the film community as a jumping-off point for discussions of where the art form is, where it has been, and where it is going. This decade’s list continues that trend as some newer films have found their way onto it.
Most notably, the #1 film on this decade’s list is Chantal Ackerman’s Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles which knocked Vertigo off the top spot. Jeanne Dielman leads a pack of new films to the list that represent a changing of the guard in the film critic community. Fans of films and film history would do well to scan the full list of 100 films the next time they are on the lookout for something great to watch.
