Jazz on a Summer’s Day

posted on - September 16, 2021

George Wein died September 13. He was the founder and promoter of the jazz festivals and folk festivals at Newport, RI, among others. To be honest, when I heard that he died, I was surprised that he lived so long, or that he was so young when he started organizing the festivals.

The film Jazz on a Summer’s Day features performances from the 1958 festival. Some people find it to be the best record of jazz performance on film and among the greatest music films ever. What do you think? You can borrow the DVD from MML and see for yourself.
