Expanding on Maine’s Interlibrary Loan program, Reciprocal Borrowing allows patrons with a library card from MML to walk into one of 67 other libraries and borrow materials in person.
Maine Reciprocal Borrowing is a pilot program led by the Maine State Library that began in the fall of 2019. The program allows a patron with a valid library card from one of the 68 participating libraries to borrow materials from one of the other participating libraries in person.
Not every library in Maine has the computer systems required to participate in this program, and some that do opted not to.
We hope that this improves the library experience of patrons across the state!
What libraries are participating in the Reciprocal Borrowing Program?
You can view a list of the public libraries, college/university libraries, and special libraries that are participating in the program on the Maine State Library site.
If I use my MML card at another library, where should I return the book?
We would prefer that you return the book to the same library where you borrowed it.
