What is Summer Reading?
The Summer Reading Reading program, simply, is a way to incentivize reading in the summer. The library hosts eight weeks of summer fun, activities, reading challenges, & more to promote literacy and encourage everyone to continue reading even through the most beautiful months of the year!
Who can participate?
All ages, we have a summer reading program for everyone! Babies, kids, teens, & adults each have their own special reading challenges & events to participate in and earn prizes all summer long.
How do I sign up?
Starting June 26th, come in to the library & ask to sign up for Summer Reading! Babies, kids, & teens get to pick out a FREE BOOK that’s theirs to keep upon sign up. You’ll receive your bingo sheet or reading log to start working your way through the challenges to earn your prizes!
How does it work?
NEW Babies & Toddlers Reading Log: Read 50 books with your infant or toddler over the summer, turn in your log when finished, & claim your prize!
Kids Bingo Sheet: Kids will receive a bingo sheet with 25 squares that contain a mix of reading challenges & activities to complete over the eight weeks of the summer reading program. As the squares on the bingo sheet are checked off, you’ll receive three tiers of prizes. For a four-corners bingo, you’ll receive a prize. For your first 5-in-a-row bingo, you’ll receive a prize. For completing the full sheet (25 squares) you’ll get your last final prize! Rows can be completed in any direction, and one activity can only count for one square at a time (no double-dipping, sorry!)
Teen Bingo Sheet: Teens aged 12+ will receive a bingo sheet with 16 squares that contain a mix of reading challenges & activities to complete over the eight weeks of summer reading program. As the squares on the bingo sheet are checked off, you’ll receive a prize for your FIRST bingo (4 in a row) and for completing the full sheet (16 squares). Rows can be completed up, down, or diagonally.
Adult Bingo Sheet: Adults will receive a bingo sheet with 16 squares that contain a mix of reading challenges & activities to complete over the eight weeks of the summer reading program. As the squares on the bingo sheet are checked off, you’ll receive a raffle ticket for every 4-in-a-row bingo you get, and an extra raffle ticket for sending in an emailed book review (more details on the adult bingo sheet). Raffle tickets will earn you the chance to win a prize!
What are the prizes?
For babies & toddlers: a library tote bag!
For kids: a summer reading t-shirt, a free ice cream coupon at Pat’s Pizza Yarmouth, sunglasses, and finally a pouch of rocks & gems of your choosing!
For teens: a summer reading t-shirt, sunglasses, and raffle tickets to win a $20 gift card to a local business!
For adults: raffle tickets to win a library tote bag!
