Film Screening: “Master and Commander: the Far Side of the World”

Based on the Aubrey-Maturin series of naval adventure novels by Patrick O’Brian, Peter Weir’s film follows Captain Jack Aubrey and his trustee sidekick Stephen Maturin, the ship’s surgeon, as they give chase to, and do battle with, a French privateer during the Napoleonic wars. This film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards and won 2, and, even though an entire series of films were rumored, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World remains a lone, brilliant, movie in a non-franchise. An intermission, and snacks, will be provided!
